A devastating fire engulfed the historic Old Stock Exchange building in Copenhagen, Denmark, leaving onlookers in shock and disbelief. The 17th-century building, known for its green copper roof and distinctive dragon spire, was a beloved landmark in the city.

Mikkel Jensen, a civil servant, expressed his sadness at the sight of the twisted scaffolding clinging to the ruins of the building. Morten Langager, manager of the Danish Chamber of Commerce, which owned the building, vowed that it should “rise again” despite the extensive damage.

The fire, which started on the roof during renovations, quickly spread, causing the spire to collapse onto the building and the street below. Passers-by, Chamber of Commerce staff, and emergency responders rushed to save priceless paintings and other works of art housed inside the building.

While most of the valuable contents were rescued, the extent of the damage was still unknown. The cause of the fire remained under investigation, with authorities unable to enter the building due to safety concerns.

The aftermath of the fire led to the closure of nearby ministries due to smoke damage, with employees instructed to work from home. The city of Copenhagen, known for its iconic spires, mourned the loss of the Old Stock Exchange, a symbol of Dutch Renaissance architecture in Denmark.

As the investigation continues and plans for reconstruction are considered, the community remains hopeful that the historic building will once again grace the skyline of Copenhagen.
