Could a New Disney World Theme Park Be Coming to Florida?

Fans of Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, are buzzing with excitement after initial votes were cast in favor of a massive expansion plan for the beloved theme park. A unanimous agreement was reached in primary voting between Disney and the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District (CFTOD) on Wednesday, paving the way for a significant transformation of the iconic park.

The expansion plan includes building additional hotels, retail spaces, and the potential creation of a fifth major theme park in the area, in addition to the existing Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom. The project is estimated to cost a whopping $17 billion over the next two decades, promising economic growth, job creation, and support for local businesses in Central Florida.

District Administrator Stephanie Kopelousos expressed optimism about the project, highlighting the potential benefits for the community. The agreement also includes allocating funds for housing projects and public infrastructure improvements, with a requirement for Disney to use local contractors for construction projects and ensure that 50% of all contracted business is local to Florida.

While Disney has not officially confirmed plans for a new park, rumors have been circulating for years, with CEO Bob Iger hinting at potential investments during a recent earnings call. The company’s focus on quality content over quantity, particularly on its streaming service Disney+, has been evident in recent restructuring efforts.
