Courtland Girls Tennis Team Makes History with State Finals Appearance
The Courtland girls tennis team made history this season by reaching the Virginia High School League Class 4 state finals for the first time in school history. Despite falling to Broad Run in the final with a score of 5-2, the Cougars had an unforgettable season filled with success and determination.
Head coach Jimmie Williams praised his team for their hard work and fighting spirit throughout the season. The senior class, including players like Meredith Stapleton, Adele Granger, and Libby Snow, played a crucial role in Courtland’s success, with Snow leading the way with 90 career wins.
Williams expressed his pride in the team’s accomplishments, calling them the best team he has ever coached. With the departure of key seniors, the Cougars will face the challenge of filling their shoes in the upcoming season. However, they have talented players like Allison Meyer, Drew Sherwood, and Maddy Lawson returning to lead the team in 2025.
Courtland has set a high standard for themselves, proving that they can compete with the best teams in the state. Looking ahead, the team is focused on continuing to improve and hopefully capturing a state title in the future.
“We’re always going to try and reload,” Williams said, emphasizing the team’s determination to continue their winning tradition. With a strong foundation and talented players, Courtland is poised for success in the seasons to come.
