Crafting a Healing Environment: How an Art Project Aims to Help Hong Kong Children ‘Regain the Lost Wings’ – YP

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Renowned artist and lecturer Faye Leong Huey-yi has embarked on a mission to combat teenage suicide attempts in Hong Kong through a unique creative project called “Regain the Lost Wings”. Partnering with Olivia Yan, founder of the Lost Child Project Hong Kong, Leong aims to nurture children’s mental well-being through immersive nature and art workshops.

Leong believes that everyone possesses inner “wings” that are often forgotten amidst the pressures of life. With this in mind, she hopes to reignite these wings in the hearts of young participants, fostering a deeper connection to themselves and the environment. The project, which kicked off in March, will span a year and a half, offering free workshops to children across Hong Kong.

To enhance the experience, Leong has enlisted the help of environmentalist Mok Ho-kwong, also known as “Yeah Man”, who advocates for green living and reconnecting with nature. Mok’s interactive workshops teach youngsters how to construct a treehouse using bamboo and woodwork scaffolding, showcasing the wonders of sustainable living.

Both Leong and Mok are passionate about instilling creativity, compassion, and resilience in the city’s youth, emphasizing the healing power of nature on mental well-being. As they continue to inspire positive change in the community, they hope to create a safe haven for children to explore their inner potential and find solace in the beauty of the natural world.
