GCMS Baseball Seniors Lead Team to Historic State Tournament Appearance

In a season filled with hard work and dedication, the Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley (GCMS) baseball team, led by seniors Ty Cribbett and Brayden Elliott, has achieved a historic milestone by securing the program’s first-ever trip to the IHSA state tournament.

Coach Dustin White tasked Cribbett, Elliott, and the rest of the seven seniors on the team with mentoring the younger players, and they have excelled in their leadership roles. The duo’s friendship, both on and off the field, has been a driving force behind the team’s success.

With a record of 22-7-1, the Falcons are set to face Altamont in the Class 1A semifinal game, with a chance to advance to the championship game. The team’s strong pitching staff, led by Elliott, Leonard, and Nettleton, has been backed up by a potent offense that has scored at least seven runs in four of their last five games.

The community support for the Falcons has been overwhelming, with fans filling the stands and offering congratulations to the team on their historic run. The players are grateful for the support and are determined to make the most of their state tournament experience.

As they prepare for their upcoming games, the Falcons are focused on staying true to their fundamentally sound identity and enjoying the journey together as a team. With their sights set on a state title, GCMS is ready to make their mark on the Illinois high school baseball scene.
