Chennai Super Kings CEO Kasi Viswanathan expressed optimism about the possibility of former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni playing in IPL 2025 as a player. Dhoni, who led CSK to five IPL titles, stepped down as captain before the current season, sparking speculation about his future in the tournament. Viswanathan emphasized that the decision ultimately lies with Dhoni himself.

In a recent interview, Viswanathan stated, “We have always respected the decisions taken by MS. We have left it to him. But we are very, very hopeful that he will be available for CSK next year. That is the expectation of the fans and mine.”

Despite undergoing knee surgery last year, Dhoni showcased his prowess this season by scoring 161 runs at a strike rate of 220.55 and displaying his skills behind the stumps. With a mega IPL auction on the horizon, CSK will likely retain Dhoni if he decides to continue playing. However, the specifics of player retention are still unclear, as discussions with the BCCI have not yet taken place.

Viswanathan emphasized the need for clarity on retention rules, stating, “It is too early because we have still not heard from BCCI on the kind of retentions which are going to be part of the next cycle of auction. So we are expecting that the BCCI would discuss with all franchise owners before they take a decision on retention.”

As fans eagerly await Dhoni’s decision, the cricketing world remains intrigued by the possibility of witnessing the legendary captain in action once again in the IPL.
