Reading Time: < 1 minute

Javier Assad Shines as Chicago Cubs Blank Milwaukee Brewers 5-0

In a dominant display of pitching, Javier Assad led the Chicago Cubs to a 5-0 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers in the rubber game of their weekend series. Assad pitched six sparkling innings, allowing only four hits while striking out four and walking three. This performance lowered his ERA to an impressive 1.66 for the season.

The Cubs’ victory was highlighted by strong pitching performances from their starters throughout the series. Chicago’s starting pitchers combined for 18 1/3 scoreless innings, limiting the Brewers to just nine hits over the weekend.

On the other side, Milwaukee’s Freddy Peralta struggled on the mound, matching his career high with six walks in five innings. Peralta, who was coming off a suspension for his involvement in a recent brawl, allowed three hits and struck out five in the loss.

Offensively, the Cubs took control of the game with three runs in Peralta’s final inning, including a two-run double by Nico Hoerner. Dansby Swanson added a solo homer in the sixth inning, while Christopher Morel contributed with a run-scoring single in the seventh.

Despite several scoring opportunities, the Brewers failed to capitalize, going 0 for 7 with runners in scoring position and leaving eight runners on base. Assad’s strong performance on the mound, combined with solid offensive support, secured the Cubs’ victory.

With the win, the Cubs improved to 21-14 on the season, while the Brewers fell to 20-13. Chicago will look to carry this momentum into their upcoming series, while Milwaukee aims to bounce back in their next matchup.
