Cummins and Verizon Business sign innovative agreement for combined Neutral Host and Private 5G network

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Verizon Business and Cummins Inc. have joined forces to implement Verizon’s new Neutral Host Network product at Cummins’ Jamestown Engine Plant (JEP) in Lakewood, NY. This innovative agreement marks Cummins as the first announced customer for Verizon Business’ Neutral Host Network, which will provide both a private 5G network and a neutral host network at the Jamestown Engine Plant.

The Neutral Host Network will allow employees and the general public, regardless of their mobile provider, to access a strengthened mobile signal through dedicated network infrastructure on the premises. This combined with the private 5G network will enable Cummins to manage both business-critical connected operations and conventional public-network connectivity for phones and tablets.

Verizon will serve as the technical lead for the network implementation, responsible for engineering, equipment, and installation. The network will cover 1 million square feet of industrial space, 1 million square feet of outdoor space, and provide mobile connectivity for the 1,500 employees at the site.

Cummins sees this network implementation as crucial to enhancing operations at the Jamestown Engine Plant and improving the quality of the engines produced for their customers. The Private 5G Network will support business-critical applications, while the Neutral Host Network will ensure consistent mobile connectivity for all onsite devices.

Overall, this collaboration between Verizon Business and Cummins represents a significant step forward in leveraging cutting-edge technology to enhance operations and connectivity at the Jamestown Engine Plant. The implementation of the Neutral Host Network and Private 5G Network will enable Cummins to embrace Industry 4.0 strategies, improve communication among team members, and ultimately produce engines more safely, efficiently, and with higher quality.
