The Altoona Curve faced a tough 4-0 loss to Akron on Tuesday night, extending their losing streak to four games. Despite drawing eight walks and getting baserunners on throughout the game, the Curve struggled to capitalize on scoring opportunities, grounding into three double plays and going 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position.

Curve manager Robby Hammock emphasized the need to simplify things and get back to basics in order to turn the team’s fortunes around. Starting pitcher Chris Gau had a solid start, but a crucial error in the third inning led to Akron’s three-run homer, ultimately sealing the Curve’s fate.

First baseman Aaron Shackelford was a bright spot for the Curve, going 2-for-4 with a double and single, while reliever Brad Case delivered a strong performance, tossing three hitless innings and striking out three.

Looking ahead, Bubba Chandler is set to take the mound for the Curve in their next game. The No. 5 Pirates prospect has shown promise this season, with 15 strikeouts in 12.1 innings. Despite the recent struggles, Hammock remains optimistic about the team’s potential and is hopeful for a turnaround in the upcoming games.

The Curve will have a quick turnaround as they face another game this morning at 11 a.m. for the first Education Day of the season. The early start could provide an opportunity for players to reset and refocus as they look to bounce back from their recent losses.
