D.P. Manu Wins Men’s Javelin Throw at Indian Grand Prix I, Just Misses Qualifying for Paris Olympics

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Hima Das, the star sprinter, faced disappointment at the Indian Grand Prix track and field competition in Bengaluru as she failed to complete the women’s 200m event. Making her comeback after a provisional suspension by NADA, Hima had to pull out of the race due to an apparent injury, leaving Andhra Pradesh’s Chelimi to claim victory with a time of 23.92s.

In another surprising turn of events, the men’s shot put event was canceled as none of the listed competitors showed up at the venue. This was a missed opportunity for Tajinderpal Singh Toor, who was in a good position to meet the Paris Olympics qualification standard with his personal best of 21.77m.

Despite these setbacks, there were still some standout performances at the competition. D.P. Manu emerged victorious in the men’s javelin with a throw of 81.91m, while Praveen Chithravel clinched gold in the triple jump with a leap of 17.12m. However, Chithravel fell short of the Olympic mark by 0.10m.

Young talent Shaili Singh impressed in the women’s long jump, securing the top spot with a jump of 6.52m, while Nayana James settled for silver with a jump of 6.44m.

Overall, the Indian Grand Prix saw some fierce competition and impressive displays of athleticism, but the absence of key athletes and Hima Das’s unfortunate exit left fans wanting more.
