Daniel Cormier fires back at Jon Jones following unexpected jab in Tom Aspinall feud

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones are once again at odds, this time over Jones’ decision to favor a fight with Stipe Miocic over a matchup with Tom Aspinall. Jones recently took to social media to defend his choice, comparing Aspinall winning the interim title while Jones is out with an injury to Cormier’s reign as light heavyweight champion.

Cormier quickly refuted Jones’ comparison, pointing out the differences between their situations. Cormier emphasized that Jones was sidelined due to a drug-test suspension, not an injury like Jones is claiming. He highlighted the fact that Jones was stripped of his title for illegal substances found in his body, while Aspinall won the interim title fair and square.

Cormier also mentioned their past fights, including their rematch at UFC 214 where Jones defeated Cormier by knockout, only for the result to be overturned to a no-contest due to Jones testing positive for banned substances.

Despite the ongoing feud, Cormier acknowledged Jones’ impressive legacy in the sport and his desire to fight Miocic. Cormier believes that Jones should face Miocic, the last great from Jones’ generation, before moving up a weight class.

In the midst of the controversy, Jones remains focused on the Miocic matchup, with Cormier understanding his decision. Cormier dismissed claims that Jones is afraid of Aspinall, stating that Jones has made up his mind and is sticking to his choice.

The feud between Cormier and Jones continues to captivate fans, with both fighters standing their ground on their respective positions.
