Dexter High School Junior Makes History with Two State Championships
Dexter High School junior, Daphne Grant, has made history by winning state championships in both field hockey and ice hockey in the same school year. Grant played a crucial role in both the Dexter Field Hockey team and the Washtenaw United Ice Hockey team, leading them to victory in their respective state tournaments.
In October, the Dexter Field Hockey team secured their second consecutive MHSFHL Division 2 state championship by defeating Chelsea. Then, in March, the Washtenaw United girls’ hockey team claimed the Division 2 state title with a win over Cranbrook-Kingswood.
Grant shared her thoughts on this remarkable achievement, expressing pride in the hard work she has put into both sports. Despite facing challenges throughout the seasons, Grant and her teammates persevered and overcame obstacles with determination and teamwork.
Reflecting on the highlights of the year, Grant emphasized the importance of her teammates and the bonds they formed both on and off the field. She also credited her coaches for their guidance and support, acknowledging their role in her success.
