Data reveals that Gym Utilization Rates have surpassed Pre-Pandemic Levels

The fitness industry is experiencing a significant boom in 2024, with gym check-ins nearly doubling from pre-pandemic levels and demand for personal training soaring, according to a report from ABC Fitness. The report, which analyzed data from 40 million members across 100 countries, found that gym check-ins were up 60% in the first quarter of 2024 compared to the previous year.

In addition, the report revealed a 78% increase in clients using personal trainers compared to last year, with women making up over 50% of new clients. This surge in interest in personal training is indicative of a broader trend towards prioritizing physical and mental well-being, as well as social connections.

Young consumers, particularly Gen Z, are leading the charge when it comes to prioritizing wellness, with many investing between $21-$69 a month on average on monthly dues. This generation also represents the highest increase in new joins year-over-year, showing a strong commitment to health and fitness.

Gyms and studios have become a crucial “third place” for many individuals, providing a healthy respite from work and home while also fostering socialization and meaningful connections. According to ABC Fitness, 58% of members and users believe it’s important for their fitness club to embrace social causes, highlighting the growing emphasis on community and social responsibility in the fitness industry.
