The Hollywood Reporter has announced that screenwriter David Callaham, known for his work on blockbuster films like “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” and “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” will be penning the script for the next installment in the Godzilla/Kong monster movie series by Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment.

Callaham previously received a story credit for the 2014 live-action Godzilla film, showcasing his experience in the realm of monster movies. However, the director of the recent hits “Godzilla vs. Kong” and “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,” Adam Wingard, has not yet been confirmed to helm the upcoming project. Wingard is reportedly set to direct an original movie titled “Onslaught” this fall before taking on any other projects.

The latest film in the Monsterverse series, “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,” opened in the United States earlier than planned on March 29, earning approximately $8 million in preview screenings and topping the box office with an $80 million opening weekend. The film has since grossed over $191 million in the U.S. and $558 million worldwide.

In Japan, the film debuted at #2 in the box office, selling over 857,000 tickets and earning a total of 1.17 billion yen (about $7.56 million) as of May 5. With the success of the previous films in the series, fans are eagerly anticipating the next chapter in the epic battle between Godzilla and Kong.
