Dean College celebrated its 158th commencement exercises on Saturday, conferring bachelor’s degrees upon 250 graduates from 19 states. The ceremony took place on the front lawn of Dean Hall in Franklin, where students were urged to use their knowledge and imagination to shape the future.

Michael J. Bobbitt, executive director of the Mass Cultural Council, delivered the commencement address, challenging graduates to be creative, passionate, and leaders in their respective fields. He emphasized the importance of creativity and empathy in finding innovative solutions to complex issues.

Mark D. Boyce, chair of the Dean College Board of Trustees, advised graduates to embrace the future with boldness and a commitment to lifelong learning. He stressed the importance of using their skills for innovation and inclusion in a diverse world.

Student speaker Madison Frechette, who earned degrees in business management, marketing, and dance, encouraged her classmates to approach the next chapter of their lives with excitement and anticipation. She reminded them that they are part of a supportive community that will help them navigate the challenges and triumphs ahead.

Honorary degrees were presented to two recipients for their extraordinary contributions to society. Bobbitt received a doctor of fine arts, while Peter W. Galbraith, a former U.S. diplomat and author, received a doctor of humane letters.

The ceremony also included invocations by Rev. Dr. Ray Hammond and a benediction by Rev. Bob Poitras, highlighting the significance of the event and the achievements of the graduating class.
