Decreasing Attendance at Draft Events | Latest Updates on News, Sports, and Job Opportunities

Reading Time: < 1 minute

DETROIT (AP) — The NFL Draft is a dream come true for many aspiring football players, but not everyone feels the same way. This year, only 13 players chose to attend the draft in Detroit, marking a decline in attendees for the third consecutive year.

Among those who opted out of the traditional draft experience was former Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy, who decided to celebrate with a larger group of 100 people near the airport. Despite not walking the red carpet, McCarthy planned to make a statement in a custom charcoal gray Alo Yoga suit.

In contrast, former North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye eagerly accepted the invitation to attend the draft in Detroit. For Maye, the opportunity to walk across the stage and be with the commissioner was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that he couldn’t pass up.

While the NFL provides invited players with travel accommodations and hotel rooms, some players, like McCarthy, prefer to celebrate with a larger group of supporters. McCarthy expressed his gratitude for the village that supported him on his journey to the draft and wanted to share that special moment with them.

Although the number of draft attendees may be dwindling, each player’s decision reflects their unique perspective and priorities. Whether they choose to bask in the spotlight or celebrate quietly with loved ones, the NFL Draft remains a significant milestone in the lives of these talented athletes.
