Marshall Tigers Defeat New Ulm Eagles 3-1 in Big South Conference Baseball Matchup

In a thrilling Big South Conference baseball game, the Marshall Tigers emerged victorious with a 3-1 win over the New Ulm Eagles at Mueller Park on Tuesday. The standout performance of the game came from Marshall pitcher Liam Kruse, who delivered a stellar performance on the mound.

Marshall head coach Chace Pollock praised Kruse’s improvement, stating, “He’s getting better and better each outing. He threw a no-hitter earlier this year with a couple other guys. Every game he seems to be better and better.” Kruse struck out six batters and allowed only two hits and one earned run in his seven innings pitched, stifling the potent New Ulm offense.

On the offensive side, Ashton Blomberg and Josh Kraft led the way for Marshall, each contributing multiple hits and runs scored. JR Vierstraete also made an impact with a triple and a run scored. Despite New Ulm’s efforts, they struggled to generate offense against Kruse’s dominant pitching.

New Ulm head coach Mike Anderson acknowledged the challenge of facing Kruse, stating, “That pitcher that we faced was really good. He got strike one all the time, changed speeds, kept us off balance, and just kept us off.” Despite the loss, Anderson saw improvements in his team’s performance and remains optimistic for the rest of the season.

With this win, Marshall improves to a 5-1 record, while New Ulm falls to 3-4. Both teams showed resilience and determination throughout the game, setting the stage for an exciting rematch in the future.
