Defense startup True Anomaly reduces workforce by 25% and cancels summer internship program

Space and defense startup True Anomaly has made significant changes to its workforce, including laying off around 25% of its employees and canceling its summer internship program. The company, based in Centennial, Colorado, made these decisions as part of a restructuring effort to streamline its operations and focus on its core goals.

A spokesperson for True Anomaly explained, “With our rapid growth over the past two years, we looked at every aspect of our company to make sure we are laser focused on our goals and best positioned to execute. We identified the duplication of roles and functions across the company, and as such, reduced our headcount. This won’t impact our ability to execute on our contracts with customers or on our mission to bring security and sustainability to the space domain.”

The layoffs affected employees in sales, business development, and recruiting, as well as the summer interns who were looking forward to starting their program on June 1. Despite these changes, True Anomaly remains committed to its mission of modernizing space defense with its Jackal spacecraft and Mosaic software platform for command and control operations.

The company recently faced a setback with its first mission, Mission X, which ended early due to communication issues with the deployed spacecraft. However, True Anomaly is determined to move forward and has plans to launch at least twice more in the next 12 months. Additionally, the team is gearing up to work on a $30 million responsive space contract that was awarded earlier this month.

While these changes may have come as a surprise to some, True Anomaly is focused on moving forward and continuing its efforts to innovate in the space and defense industry.
