Deion Sanders Stands Up for Michael Penix Jr. Ahead of NFL Draft

As the 2024 NFL Draft approaches, former Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. is garnering support from an unexpected source – Colorado coach Deion Sanders. Sanders took to social media to express his frustration with the lack of recognition Penix has received in the lead-up to the draft.

“I can’t stand the way the mainstream media and draft experts have looked over, looked by & looked past MICHAEL PENIX JR,” Sanders wrote in a passionate post. “This is ridiculous. Somebody stand up & tell the truth plz.”

Despite concerns about Penix’s age and injury history, he is still ranked at No. 30 in the CBS Sports NFL Draft Prospect Rankings and is considered a first-round prospect. Penix had an impressive college career, finishing second in Heisman Trophy voting in 2023 and leading the nation in passing yards.

However, Penix’s journey to the pros has not been without obstacles. He has suffered multiple season-ending injuries, including ACL tears and a dislocated shoulder. At 24 years old, he is on the older side for a draft prospect, but his talent and potential are undeniable.

Sanders’ vocal support for Penix adds an interesting twist to the pre-draft narrative, highlighting the debate surrounding the quarterback’s draft stock. As the draft kicks off in Detroit, all eyes will be on Penix to see where he lands and how he will fare in the NFL.
