The 2023-24 Delaware County winter high school sports season has come to a close, and it was a season filled with standout performances and memorable moments. Let’s take a look back at some of the top athletes and teams that made an impact during the winter sports season.
Starting off with boys’ basketball, Wapahani senior Isaac Andrews stood out as the best player in the county. Andrews had an impressive season, scoring over 20 points in more than 20 games and averaging 24.3 points per game. He also became Delaware County’s all-time leading scorer and helped lead the Raiders to their first-ever state finals appearance.
On the girls’ side, Delta sophomore Jillian Barr shined as the top basketball player. Barr led the Eagles to their best record in six seasons and a county title, averaging 15.6 points per game with multiple double-doubles and triple-doubles.
In wrestling, Delta junior Ayden Bollinger and Daleville freshman Kynlie Keffer were recognized as the best wrestlers in the county. Bollinger finished with an impressive 42-1 record and a third-place finish at the state finals, while Keffer finished in second place in her weight class.
Swimmers Zach Baty and Annie Jackson from Delta were named the best boys’ and girls’ swimmers, respectively, showcasing their dominance in the pool throughout the season.
Overall, Wapahani boys’ basketball was named the best winter team, with a record of 26-3 and their first-ever appearance in the state finals.
