Delta partners with United to introduce the new CRJ-550 regional jet

Delta Air Lines is set to revolutionize regional jet travel with the introduction of the custom-configured Bombardier CRJ-550 on select Delta Connection flights. This move comes as the Atlanta-based carrier aims to enhance the passenger experience and compete with other major U.S. airlines.

The CRJ-550 will feature a luxurious layout with 10 first-class recliners, 20 extra-legroom Comfort+ seats, and 20 standard economy seats. Additionally, the jet will include three special luggage closets for full-size rollaboards, eliminating the need for gate-checking large carry-on bags.

One unique feature of the CRJ-550 is a small walk-up bar area in the galley for first-class passengers to enjoy snacks and beverages. With a total capacity of 50 passengers, the jet is strategically designed to comply with scope clauses that limit the number of flights operated by regional jets.

Delta’s decision to introduce the CRJ-550 follows in the footsteps of United Airlines, which first flew the aircraft in 2019. By offering a premium-heavy configuration, Delta aims to cater to business travelers on regional routes, providing a more comfortable and upscale flying experience.

As Delta continues to position itself as the most premium U.S. airline, the introduction of the CRJ-550 aligns with its strategy to prioritize passenger satisfaction.
