Democratic technology organization plans to disrupt Republican state legislatures in 2024

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Tech for Campaigns, a Democratic organization comprised of tech industry workers, is ramping up its efforts to influence state elections by expanding its focus to include six states where Republicans hold strong majorities in state legislatures.

The organization, which boasts 17,000 tech worker volunteers, is targeting states such as Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee, and Texas as part of its new “Next Ten” strategy. This initiative aims to flip control of state legislatures from Republican to Democrat within the next decade.

Using artificial intelligence technology, Tech for Campaigns is helping state legislative candidates with creating ads and fundraising emails to maximize their resources. The organization’s proactive approach contrasts with conservative tech personalities who have scaled back their involvement in the 2024 election.

In states like North Carolina, where Republicans hold a supermajority, Tech for Campaigns is working to break that stronghold by supporting Democratic candidates. The organization’s efforts are crucial in addressing critical issues such as abortion, election administration, and LGBTQ rights at the state level.

With a budget of $10-14 million for the 2024 cycle, Tech for Campaigns is making a significant impact in state legislative races where outside help is often scarce. By providing tangible support in the form of volunteers, funding, and communications assistance, the organization is empowering Democrats in traditionally red states like Texas to make strides towards turning them “blue.”

State Rep. James Talarico emphasized the importance of organizations like Tech for Campaigns in providing the necessary resources to make the long-standing goal of turning Texas blue a reality. With the support of tech industry volunteers and donors, Tech for Campaigns is poised to make a lasting impact on state elections across the country.
