Democrats gain financial advantage in fight for control of the House

Democrats are gaining a significant financial advantage in the battle for the US House of Representatives, outpacing their GOP counterparts in fundraising and ad reservations. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee announced a record-breaking $45.4 million haul in the first quarter, surpassing the National Republican Congressional Committee’s $33.4 million. With a war chest of $71.1 million, Democrats are gearing up to support candidates in key battleground states.

Super PACs aligned with House leadership also showed Democrats with an advantage in fundraising. House Majority PAC and House Majority Forward raised $37 million for Democrats, while the Congressional Leadership Fund and American Action Network raised $30 million for Republicans. Democrats are also outpacing Republicans in fundraising for competitive races, with lead Democratic candidates outraising their Republican counterparts in most toss-up races.

House Republicans are facing leadership battles and fundraising struggles, with Speaker Mike Johnson falling short of his predecessor Kevin McCarthy’s fundraising numbers. Johnson’s leadership is being challenged by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who has led efforts to potentially oust him. In the midst of intraparty divisions, a conservative dark money group is targeting House Republicans who voted to oust McCarthy.

On the Democratic side, House Majority PAC is preparing a massive $186 million fall advertising campaign targeting key battleground races. This investment surpasses previous cycles and aims to flood districts with aggressive ad campaigns. With tensions high and the House majority up for grabs, both parties are gearing up for a fierce battle in the upcoming elections.
