Democrats Invest $7 Million in TV Ads for Five Crucial State Senate Races

Wisconsin Democrats are gearing up for a major push to regain control of the state Senate, with plans to spend $7 million on television ads in key races. The State Senate Democratic Committee announced on Wednesday that they will target five races they believe are crucial to flipping the chamber.

Currently, Republicans hold a 22-10 supermajority in the 33-seat Senate, but Democrats are hopeful that new district boundaries signed by Gov. Tony Evers earlier this year will help them make gains. With 16 Senate seats up for grabs in November, including eight held by Republicans and four open seats, Democrats need to win 13 seats to secure the majority.

In a significant show of strength, Democrats have fielded candidates in every Senate race on the ballot for the first time in over two decades. The party plans to run ads in key districts such as the 8th Senate District, where Republican Sen. Duey Stroebel faces a challenge from Democrat Jodi Habush Sinykin.

Other targeted races include the redrawn 14th District, the 18th District, the 30th District, and the 32nd District. The ads will be tailored to address specific issues in each district and are set to air after the August 13 primary.

The State Senate Democratic Committee’s executive director, Andrew Whitley, highlighted the importance of these districts, noting that President Joe Biden and Gov. Tony Evers won them in recent elections. The ads are expected to focus on these winning issues to give Democratic candidates a strong chance of success.
