Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources Richard R. Verma recently visited Cameroon to strengthen the partnership between the United States and Cameroon. During his visit from April 20 to 22, Deputy Secretary Verma met with high-ranking officials, including Secretary General at the Presidency H.E. Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh, to discuss key areas of bilateral cooperation.

One of the highlights of Deputy Secretary Verma’s visit was his discussions with journalists and civil society leaders on U.S. foreign assistance, human rights, and governance in Africa, specifically in Cameroon. He emphasized the U.S. Government’s longstanding support in the health and security sectors, showcasing projects like the National Veterinary Lab Annex (LANAVET) and the Inter-Regional Coordination Centre (ICC) on maritime governance and security.

Deputy Secretary Verma praised the U.S.-Cameroon partnership for its efforts in preventing the emergence of new pandemics and saving lives, citing the successful renovation of LANAVET funded by the United States. He expressed his appreciation for Cameroon’s role in economic and regional stability, highlighting the decades-long partnership between the two countries in various areas.

As the Chief Operating Officer of the U.S. Department of State, Deputy Secretary Verma plays a crucial role in modernization, foreign assistance, and strategic issues.
