Despite being the UAE’s smallest emirate, Ajman has ambitious tourism goals

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Ajman, the UAE’s smallest emirate, is making big waves in the tourism industry this year with a 29% increase in international tourist numbers compared to the previous year. At the Arabian Travel Market in Dubai, Ajman unveiled its ambitious plans to attract more domestic and international visitors through a series of cultural festivals, sports events, and entertainment lined up in the Ajman Events Calendar.

The emirate is set to host a variety of events such as the Ajman Motor Festival, the Liwa Ajman Dates and Honey Festival, the Festival of Folklore Strings, the Ajman Half Marathon, and a grand New Year’s Eve firework display. Mahmood Alhashmi, director general of the Ajman Department of Tourism Development, expressed excitement about showcasing the rich diversity of arts, culture, sports, entertainment, and adventure that defines Ajman.

With 60% of tourists coming from outside the UAE, Ajman’s affordability and unique appeal are major draws for visitors. Alhashmi highlighted the distinct history and culture of Ajman, making it a must-visit destination for travelers seeking an authentic experience. Families, in particular, are choosing Ajman for its value proposition, offering luxury accommodations at a fraction of the cost compared to neighboring emirates.

Ajman’s natural attractions, including its coast, mangroves, corniche, nature reserve, and hiking trails in the Hajar Mountains, make it a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts. The village of Masfout, an exclave surrounded by Ras Al Khaimah, adds to the emirate’s charm and allure.

Despite its small size, Ajman sees this as an advantage rather than a limitation. Alhashmi noted that tourists can explore the entire destination in just a few days, making it a convenient and immersive experience for visitors. The emirate is also looking to expand its tourism offerings, with plans to enhance hotels like The Oberoi Beach Resort and introduce new properties with operators from Egypt and Europe.

In a bid to offer more cultural experiences, Ajman is working on a program that allows travelers to stay with local families, share meals, and immerse themselves in the authentic way of life in Ajman. This initiative aims to provide a deeper connection to the local community and showcase the rich heritage of the emirate.

Furthermore, the Ajman Department of Tourism Development recently signed a partnership with the Rewaq Ousha Cultural Centre to promote cultural awareness and heritage preservation among young people. This collaboration underscores Ajman’s commitment to nurturing its cultural and creative landscape, aligning with the broader vision of Ajman Vision 2030 to establish the emirate as a leading cultural and tourism hub in the region.

As Ajman continues to attract a growing number of international visitors, its blend of affordability, cultural richness, and natural beauty positions it as a must-visit destination for travelers seeking a unique and immersive experience. With a calendar full of exciting events and initiatives, Ajman is set to make a significant impact on the global tourism scene in the coming months.
