Devin Haney’s team is seeking to have his loss to Ryan Garcia on April 20 overturned to a disqualification win after Garcia’s failed drug tests for banned substances. According to Boxing Scene, Haney’s attorney sent a letter to the New York State Athletic Commission calling for Garcia to be disqualified due to the alleged PED use and other factors that put Haney in an unsafe fight.
The letter stated that Garcia’s use of performance-enhancing drugs, along with other violations such as prohibited use of IVs and missing weight as a tactic, made the bout a mockery. Haney’s team is requesting Garcia be disqualified rather than a no-contest ruling.
In response, Garcia took to Twitter to express his frustration, demanding his money back if his victory is overturned. He also shared NYSAC rules on drug testing and threatened legal action against those involved.
Garcia tested positive for ostarine and 19-Norandrosterone metabolite in pre-fight drug tests, but was cleared of the latter. He has requested his B-sample be tested, with results expected on May 22.
The controversy surrounding Garcia’s failed drug tests has sparked a heated debate in the boxing world, with Haney’s team pushing for justice and Garcia vehemently defending his victory. The outcome of this dispute will undoubtedly have a significant impact on both fighters’ careers.
