Dewa urges residents to take precautions to prevent power and water disruptions during UAE rains

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) has issued a warning to residents to take necessary precautions during the upcoming rainy season to avoid power and water interruptions. The utility provider emphasized the importance of hiring a competent technician for regular maintenance work to ensure the safety and continuity of electricity and water supplies.

With the UAE expecting another round of medium to heavy rains, Dewa’s advisory comes at a crucial time. Following record rains on April 16 that led to flooding and property damage, it is essential for building owners and tenants to be proactive in protecting their properties during inclement weather.

Faisal Abbas, vice-president for employment benefits and general insurance at The Continental Group, shared a concerning incident where a client’s villa suffered damages amounting to Dh315,000. He also mentioned that there have been several low-value claims as clients assess the full extent of damages, with more expected in the coming month.

To prevent any issues during the rainy season, Dewa advised Dubai residents to check exposed connections and secure them using waterproof sockets and fixtures. It is also crucial to ensure that all connections are properly earthed and that electrical cabinets are closed to avoid any water damage.

Furthermore, Dewa recommended closing all spare conduits on rooftops and repairing any damaged meter windows to prevent rainwater from causing disruptions. These simple steps can go a long way in safeguarding homes and businesses from potential power and water interruptions during the rainy season.

As the UAE braces for more rain in the coming days, it is essential for residents to heed Dewa’s advice and take proactive measures to protect their properties and ensure the uninterrupted supply of electricity and water. By following these guidelines and seeking the assistance of qualified technicians for maintenance work, residents can minimize the risk of damage and ensure a safe and secure environment during inclement weather.
