Director-General of SMEDAN Announces Plans to Utilize Technology for Business Progression

The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) is set to revolutionize the business landscape in Nigeria through the deployment of technology, according to the Director-General, Charles Odii. In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, Odii emphasized the importance of digital technology in driving economic development and ensuring the advancement of businesses in the country.

Odii highlighted SMEDAN’s initiatives to utilize technology for the assessment, identification, and support of small businesses, with the goal of promoting inclusivity and competitiveness on a global scale. By leveraging digital literacy and online platforms, SMEDAN aims to provide resources and opportunities to entrepreneurs without bias or unnecessary bureaucracy.

The director-general showcased how technology is being used as a scale yardstick, enabling SMEDAN to reach a wider audience and have a greater impact through its training programs. He also mentioned the agency’s plans to deploy Artificial Intelligence for content dissemination across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

In addition to focusing on women entrepreneurs and internal capacity building, Odii emphasized the importance of preparing SMEDAN employees to drive prosperity for the millions of small businesses in Nigeria. By aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s vision of democratizing access to resources, SMEDAN is actively contributing to a more transparent, efficient, and inclusive economy in the country.
