Director of Travel and Tourism from the Athol Daily News explores Franklin County, seeks to boost visibility

Executive Director of Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism, Kate Fox, recently embarked on a tour of Franklin County’s tourism destinations to increase the department’s presence around the state. Joined by Anne Gobi, Gov. Maura Healey’s director of rural affairs, Fox visited various businesses and made connections in the area.

During a breakfast event at Greenfield Community College, Fox highlighted the importance of tourism as a major economic driver in the state. She emphasized the diverse industries that contribute to the tourism sector, including hotels, restaurants, activities, attractions, and outdoor recreation.

The tour included visits to local businesses such as Apex Orchards, Yankee Candle Village, and Historic Deerfield. At Apex Orchards, co-owner Courtney Basil expressed concerns about the impact of climate change on their crops, particularly after a recent cold snap.

The day ended with a visit to Finicky Farm’s baby goats at The Brewery at Four Star Farms in Northfield. Reflecting on the tour, Fox praised Franklin County for its abundance of outdoor recreation opportunities and historical sites.

Overall, the tour was a valuable opportunity for Fox to connect with local businesses and showcase the diverse offerings of Franklin County. The visit not only highlighted the importance of tourism in the region but also emphasized the need for continued support and promotion of Massachusetts as a year-round travel destination.
