Director of WFP claims Gazans are suffering from famine in Israel

World Food Programme executive director Cindy McCain has raised concerns about famine in Gaza amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. In an exclusive interview with CTV Power Play, McCain stated that people in Gaza are “wasting” due to lack of food, with reports of children and adults suffering and even passing away.

These comments come on the heels of the International Criminal Court’s chief prosecutor, Karim Khan, announcing that he is seeking international arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Yoav Gallant. Khan alleges that Israel used “starvation as a method of warfare” in Gaza, leading to criminal charges.

McCain expressed her agreement with the potential arrest warrants, emphasizing the dire situation of famine in Gaza. She highlighted the urgent need for more aid to be delivered to the region, stating that the World Food Programme is working to increase access but it is still not enough.

Despite the political tensions, McCain emphasized that the World Food Programme does not take sides in conflicts and focuses on providing food aid to those in need. She stressed the importance of feeding the people on the ground who are suffering from starvation.
