New York Yankees third baseman DJ LeMahieu has suffered a setback in his recovery from a foot injury, as it was revealed that he has a broken right foot. The 35-year-old veteran sustained the injury during a spring training game on March 16 and has been on the injured list since then.

Manager Aaron Boone announced on Saturday that an MRI showed a non-displaced fracture in LeMahieu’s foot, which had gone undetected initially due to swelling. While Boone did not provide a specific timeline for LeMahieu’s return, he mentioned that the two-time batting champion will undergo further imaging in two weeks to assess his healing progress.

Despite feeling better in recent days and being able to hit in a cage, LeMahieu’s prior foot injury from 2022 is a cause for concern. Boone emphasized that they will not rush LeMahieu’s return and that he must be fully recovered before returning to play.

LeMahieu, known for winning batting titles with the Colorado Rockies and the Yankees, had a solid season in 2021 with a .243 batting average, 15 home runs, and 44 RBIs. In addition to LeMahieu’s injury update, the Yankees made roster moves by optioning right-hander Clayton Beeter to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, selecting left-hander Tanner Tully’s contract, and designating left-hander Nick Ramirez for assignment.

The Yankees will have to navigate through LeMahieu’s absence and adjust their lineup accordingly as they aim to compete in a competitive American League East division. Stay tuned for more updates on LeMahieu’s recovery and the Yankees’ performance during the season.
