Djokovic advances to Geneva semifinals with straight sets victory over Griekspoor

World number one Novak Djokovic is on the brink of his first title of 2024 after securing a spot in the Geneva semifinals. The Serbian tennis star defeated Tallon Griekspoor in a hard-fought match, winning 7-5, 6-1 in 77 minutes at the Parc des Eaux-Vives.

Griekspoor, the sixth seed at the tournament, put up a tough challenge and even had three set points against Djokovic in the first set. However, Djokovic managed to turn the tide in his favor with some solid play.

Reflecting on the match, Djokovic admitted that Griekspoor was the better player for most of the first set and acknowledged that the outcome could have been different if his opponent had converted those set points.

In the semifinals, Djokovic will face Tomas Machac of the Czech Republic, who is appearing in his first ATP tour semifinal. The two players have met once before, with Djokovic emerging victorious in their previous encounter.

Meanwhile, in other quarterfinal matches, second seed Casper Ruud was set to face Argentinian fifth seed Sebastian Baez, while Alexandr Shevchenko was scheduled to take on Flavio Cobolli.
