DNC Covered Biden’s Legal Expenses Amid Hur Investigation

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) has come under scrutiny for paying President Biden’s legal fees related to the investigation into his handling of classified documents, despite criticizing former President Trump for using campaign donations for similar purposes.

According to Axios, the DNC paid over $1.5 million to Biden’s personal lawyer, Bob Bauer, and the firm Hemenway & Barnes LLP. Federal Election Commission records show that payments were made to both parties starting in January 2023, with the amounts fluctuating until the investigation concluded in late February.

Bauer, who was part of Biden’s legal team, had also been paid by President Obama in 2009. The Biden campaign has been critical of Trump for using campaign donations to cover his legal bills, pointing out that Biden’s costs are significantly lower than Trump’s.

In response to the criticism, the DNC argued that the situation cannot be compared to Trump, who has reportedly spent around $50 million on legal fees in 2023. Trump, on the other hand, has launched a joint fundraising agreement with the Republican National Committee to cover his legal expenses.

The Biden campaign has even coined the nickname “Broke Don” for Trump, highlighting his financial troubles stemming from civil cases in New York. Despite the back-and-forth between the two parties, the issue of using campaign donations for legal fees continues to be a point of contention in the political arena.
