Do I Need a Visa or Permit to Enter the UAE in 2024?

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a popular destination for tourists and business travelers alike. With its stunning architecture, luxurious hotels, and vibrant culture, it’s no wonder why so many people are eager to visit this Middle Eastern gem. However, before you pack your bags and head to the UAE, it’s important to understand the entry requirements set by the UAE government in their 2024 update.

For citizens of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, entering the UAE is a breeze. They do not need a visa or permit and do not require sponsorship by a national or resident in the UAE. All they need is to present their GCC country passport or national ID card at the point of entry.

For other nationalities, the entry requirements vary. Some countries are eligible for visa-free entry, while others can obtain a visa on arrival. Let’s break it down further:

Visa-free entry:
Citizens of GCC countries enjoy visa-free entry into the UAE. They simply need to present their passport or national ID card at the entry point.

Visa on arrival:
For citizens of countries like Brunei, Canada, Japan, and the United States, they can obtain a visa on arrival for 30 days with a 10-day grace period for extension. Similarly, citizens of countries like Argentina, France, Germany, and Sweden can obtain a visa on arrival for 90 days.

Pre-arranged entry permits:
For nationals of countries not eligible for visa-free entry or visa on arrival, they will need to apply for an entry permit in advance and have a sponsor in the UAE. The sponsor could be an Emirati citizen, an expatriate resident with a valid residency permit, a UAE-based airline or hotel, a government entity, or a private sector company.

Requirements for an entry permit:
To obtain an entry permit, prospective visitors must have a genuine passport valid for at least six months. They must also have a sponsor in the UAE and must not have any visa bans or deportation history.

It’s important to note that it is illegal to work in the UAE on a visit or tourist visa. Violators may face fines and deportation for working without the proper permits.

Before planning your trip to the UAE, make sure to check the entry requirements based on your nationality and travel purpose. By following the guidelines set by the UAE government, you can ensure a smooth and hassle-free entry into this captivating country.
