Donald Trump Dismisses Report on VP Search as Unfounded

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Former President Donald Trump has denied reports that former Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley is under consideration to be his vice president pick for the 2024 election. Despite speculation and rumors swirling around potential running mates, Trump took to his social media platform, Truth Social, to set the record straight.

Axios had initially reported that Haley, a former South Carolina governor, was being actively considered by Trump’s campaign to join the ticket. However, Trump quickly shut down these rumors by stating, “Nikki Haley is not under consideration for the V.P. slot, but I wish her well! DJT.”

This denial comes amidst ongoing speculation about who Trump’s vice-presidential pick could be, with names like South Dakota’s Republican Governor Kristi Noem being thrown into the mix. Trump has indicated that he will likely announce his running mate close to the Republican National Convention in July.

The relationship between Haley and Trump has been rocky, with both figures criticizing each other during the GOP primary. Haley had previously called Trump unfit for office and predicted his loss to President Joe Biden in the general election. Trump, in turn, has criticized Haley’s presidential potential, stating that she is not “presidential timber.”

Despite their past differences, a potential reconciliation with Haley could offer Trump access to donors wary of his candidacy and help him attract a specific group of voters who have supported Haley in primaries. As the 2024 election season heats up, the question of Trump’s running mate remains a topic of intense speculation and intrigue.
