Doubleheader ends in a tie | Latest updates on News, Sports, and Job opportunities

In a thrilling doubleheader split between the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday, the Pirates came out on top with a resounding 10-2 victory in the second game. Paul Skenes, the Pirates’ starting pitcher, put on a dominant performance, striking out nine batters and earning his second career victory.

Skenes, who was celebrating his 22nd birthday, showcased his impressive pitching arsenal, including a blazing fastball that reached speeds of 98-99 mph and a deceptive pitch known as the “splinker.” Manager Derek Shelton praised Skenes for his ability to finish hitters and navigate through the Tigers’ lineup with ease.

The Pirates offense was led by Andrew McCutchen, who blasted a three-run homer in the third inning for his 1,600th career hit. McCutchen finished the game with three hits, a walk, and four RBIs. Nick Gonzales also contributed with three hits, including a solo homer.

On the other side, Tigers starter Keider Montero struggled in his major league debut, giving up four runs and five hits in 4 1/3 innings. Despite a late rally led by Matt Vierling’s home run, the Tigers fell short and had their four-game winning streak snapped.

The Pirates’ run support has been consistent in Skenes’ starts, as they have scored six or more runs in each of his outings. With the win, the Pirates look ahead to a three-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays, while the Tigers will face the Boston Red Sox in a four-game series.
