DP World and the UN Global Compact Collaborate at G20 Ocean Dialogue in Dubai

In a groundbreaking initiative to address the pressing issues facing our oceans, DP World and the UN Global Compact have come together at the G20 Ocean Dialogue in Dubai today. Industry leaders and sustainability experts have gathered to develop a 10-point action plan aimed at protecting the health of our oceans and marine ecosystems.

The dialogue, taking place at the DP World Pavilion in Dubai EXPO City, focuses on key challenges such as decarbonization, plastic pollution, and the preservation of marine biodiversity. Participants will also discuss nature-based solutions and financing options to combat climate change and promote resilient communities.

This collaboration between DP World and the UN Global Compact is not their first venture into ocean conservation. Last year, they established the Ocean Climate Nexus Centre (OCNC) in the UAE, a hub for research, collaboration, and innovation in sustainable ocean practices.

DP World is also unveiling its new Ocean Strategy, a comprehensive plan outlining the company’s commitment to sustainable practices. This strategy aims to minimize the environmental impact of its operations, preserve marine biodiversity, and work with partners to overcome obstacles to ocean conservation. Ultimately, DP World seeks to pave the way for a thriving Sustainable Blue Economy.

H.E Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, CEO & Chairman of DP World, emphasized the company’s dedication to advancing ocean and climate research. He stated, “Our partnership with the UN Global Compact underscores our dedication to advancing ocean and climate research. Through our new Ocean Strategy, we’re committed to supporting diverse ecosystems, healthy waters, blue innovation, and finance – all key elements for thriving oceans that support equitable trade.”

Erik Giercksky from the UN Global Compact highlighted the importance of collaboration in addressing global challenges. He stated, “By working together, we can develop and implement strategies that address current climate and nature crises while ensuring the sustainable use of our oceans for future generations.”

The G20 Ocean Dialogue serves as a platform for industry and sustainability leaders to exchange ideas and solutions that can inform global policy decisions. The goal is to inspire the global community to conserve and manage ocean resources in a sustainable manner, creating a just world and a sustainable planet for future generations.

This collaboration between DP World and the UN Global Compact marks a significant step towards addressing the urgent issues facing our oceans. By coming together and sharing expertise, industry leaders and sustainability experts are paving the way for a more sustainable and resilient future for our oceans and marine ecosystems.
