Dr. Sushil emphasizes the importance of promoting a heart-healthy lifestyle

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Head of Cardiology Department at GMCH Jammu, Dr. Sushil Sharma, took the initiative to organize a day-long Cardiac-awareness-cum-Health-Checkup camp at Sarv Shakti Chandi Mata Mandir in Dhammi Nagrota, Jammu. The main focus of the camp was to promote a cardiac-friendly lifestyle in developing countries to combat the major socioeconomic burden and achieve affordable and equitable healthcare.

Dr. Sushil Sharma emphasized the importance of educating and screening the masses for cardiovascular and related ailments. He highlighted that Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) and other chronic diseases are now recognized as the leading causes of death worldwide. The risk factors for cardiovascular diseases have also increased globally, imposing a substantial economic burden on Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs) at both population and household levels.

Despite the growing burden of CVD and related chronic diseases in LMICs, there is a lack of concrete steps to increase investment and implement prevention and management efforts. Dr. Sharma pointed out that the determinants of the global CVD epidemic are multifactorial and intersectoral, involving influences from multiple sectors of society beyond just the health sector. The risk factors for CVD include genetic, biological (such as hypertension, dyslipidemia, and diabetes), and behavioral factors (like diet, physical activity, and tobacco use), which are influenced by upstream and structural factors such as demographic changes, economic development, sociopolitical determinants, social inequality, education, cultural norms, and globalization.

The camp saw the participation of other medical professionals including Dr. Yashwant Sharma, Dr. Dhaneshwar Kapoor, Dr. Shubham Pandoh, Dr. Harsh Chauhan, Aditya Chaubey, and Dr. Abhishek Mahajan. Additionally, paramedics and volunteers played a crucial role in the event, with individuals like Kamal Sharma, Rohit Nayyar, Rahul Sharma, Amish Jamwal, Mukesh Kumar, Rajinder Singh, Rahul Vaid, Jatin Bhasin, Paramveer Singh, Gourav Sharma, and Vikas Kumar contributing to the success of the camp.

The team worked tirelessly to educate the attendees about the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle to prevent cardiovascular diseases and related ailments. They conducted health checkups, provided valuable information on risk factors, and offered guidance on how to make positive lifestyle changes to reduce the burden of CVD in the community.

Dr. Sushil Sharma’s dedication to raising awareness about cardiovascular health and his efforts to provide accessible healthcare services to the community are commendable. The camp served as a platform to empower individuals with knowledge and resources to take control of their heart health and make informed decisions for a healthier future.

Overall, the Cardiac-awareness-cum-Health-Checkup camp organized by Dr. Sushil Sharma and his team was a significant step towards addressing the growing burden of cardiovascular diseases in the community and promoting a healthier lifestyle for all. Their commitment to improving the health and well-being of the population is truly inspiring and sets a positive example for others to follow.
