Drata purchases Oak9 to streamline compliance through automation in programming

Drata, a startup founded in San Diego, California, is revolutionizing the way companies ensure compliance with regulations and standards in their software development processes. The trio of former rocket scientist Adam Markowitz, recurrent CTO Daniel Marashlian, and business development exec Troy Markowitz founded Drata to address the common pain point of ensuring software compliance.

Their platform streamlines audit preparation, automates compliance processes, and offers continuous monitoring to ensure audit readiness. Drata recently announced the acquisition of oak9, a startup known for its “infrastructure-as-code” approach, which allows for managing datacenters through machine-readable definition files.

With the integration of oak9’s technology, Drata now offers a new platform called “Compliance as Code,” which provides real-time, automated testing and adjustments to ensure compliance standards are met before code is even written. This innovative approach aims to streamline processes and reduce the time required for manual compliance checks.

Drata’s CEO, Adam Markowitz, likened the service to Grammarly for code compliance, offering suggestions and remediation at the code level to ensure compliance standards are met from the start. The platform is currently in beta and will be showcased at the upcoming RSA conference in San Francisco.

With the integration of oak9’s capabilities, Drata aims to offer a secure development environment that is efficient and less burdensome for companies to remain code compliant. The platform is available through a suite of software-as-a-service subscription offerings, starting at $7,500 per year for startups.
