DTU Invests 60 Million Kroner in Climate Technological Inventions

The Technical University of Denmark (DTU) has announced a new initiative called DTU Earthbound, aimed at supporting and investing in climate technological inventions. The university has earmarked 60 million kroner for this initiative, which represents a profit from the DTU-based venture house PreSeed Ventures.

According to Marianne Thellersen, Senior Vice President for innovation and entrepreneurship at DTU, climate technologies and solutions are high priorities for researchers and students at the university. The goal of DTU Earthbound is to accelerate the ‘lab-to-market’ process and bring climate technological solutions to the world faster.

DTU Earthbound will focus on advancing deep tech science to business, helping researchers and students commercialize their technologies and turn them into start-up companies. The initiative will provide support to projects working on energy storage, carbon capture technologies, non-fossil fuels, and more.

One of the researchers who has already benefited from DTU Earthbound is Abhay Shivayogimath, whose research focuses on graphene, a material that is 200 times stronger than steel. With the support and funding from DTU Earthbound, Shivayogimath has founded a startup company called 2D to commercialize his research.

DTU Earthbound’s exclusive focus on climate technology solutions reflects the university’s commitment to addressing climate change and ensuring sustainable societies. The initiative aims to support researchers and entrepreneurs dedicated to impact startups and bring their technologies to market.
