Dubai Police Crack Down on Begging, Street Vending, and Illegal Labour During Ramadan Campaign

Dubai Police have been cracking down on individuals involved in begging, street vending, and illegal labour since the start of the Ramadan campaign ‘Combat Begging’ in April. A total of 967 individuals have been apprehended, including 396 beggars, 292 street vendors, and 279 illegal workers.

Brigadier Ali Salem Al Shamsi, Director of the Suspicious Persons and Criminal Phenomena Department of the General Department of Criminal Investigations in Dubai Police, highlighted the importance of raising awareness about the dangers of these activities, especially during Ramadan and festive seasons. He emphasized that beggars and street vendors pose a real threat to community safety, with some cases linked to theft and the exploitation of vulnerable individuals.

Al Shamsi urged the public to donate through official and trustworthy channels to ensure aid reaches those in need. He advised against responding to beggars or dealing with illegal workers, as these actions can perpetuate the cycle of exploitation and crime.

The campaign also aims to educate the public on reporting suspicious activities. The public can assist the police by reporting any observed beggars through the contact centre 901 or via the ‘Police Eye’ service on the Dubai Police smart app. Additionally, the e-Crime service allows for the smooth reporting of cybercrimes through www.ecrime.ae.

The director stressed that begging, street vending, and the presence of illegal workers not only threaten community security but also tarnish the state’s image. By taking action against these illegal activities, Dubai Police are working to create a safer and more secure environment for residents and visitors alike.

As the campaign continues, Dubai Police are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities. By working together, law enforcement and community members can combat begging, street vending, and illegal labour, ultimately creating a safer and more prosperous society for all.
