Dubai Introduces Dh350 Air Taxi Rides to Reduce Travel Time from 45 Minutes to 10

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Dubai residents are in for a futuristic and convenient mode of transportation as early as next year. The emirate is set to introduce air taxis that will allow commuters to fly over traffic jams, cutting travel time significantly. According to a report by Khaleej Times, these air taxis will cost passengers Dh350 per ride.

Bonny Simi, the president of operations at Joby, the company behind the air taxis, revealed that these aircraft can reduce travel time between two locations in Dubai by almost 70%. For example, a journey from Dubai International Airport to Palm Jumeirah that typically takes 45 minutes to an hour by road can be completed in just 10 to 12 minutes with the air taxi.

The air taxis are designed to seat four passengers along with the pilot, and they also offer ample storage space for baggage. Simi emphasized that these air taxis will provide Dubai residents with a comfortable, hassle-free, and convenient travel experience.

One of the key features of these air taxis is their ability to charge quickly between trips. Simi mentioned that the aircraft can fully charge from 0 to 100 percent in just 10 minutes. Ground staff at vertiports will swiftly connect the charging points upon landing, ensuring a seamless transition for passengers.

The aircraft operates with a unique combination of helicopter and plane capabilities, offering remarkable stability and smooth acceleration. Powered by six propulsion units, the air taxi can reach speeds of up to 320kmph and cover distances of approximately 160km on a single charge.

Safety is a top priority for Joby, with each air taxi equipped with 12 motors and four batteries for reliability during flight. Simi also hinted at the possibility of vertiports on top of towers in the future, making air taxis a primary travel model for many.

Passengers will be able to book their air taxi trips through an app developed by Joby, and they can also reserve a ride on Uber. With the promise of a serene and scenic flight experience at altitudes of 500 to 1,000 meters and noise levels as low as 45 decibels, the introduction of air taxis in Dubai is set to revolutionize the way residents commute across the city.
