This initiative is part of a larger effort to protect the emirate’s cultural and architectural heritage, maintaining its rich identity and historical significance.

The project aims to safeguard areas, sites, and buildings that hold significant historical relevance and tell the story of Dubai’s past. The first phase of the project covered 17 archaeological sites, 14 historical areas, and 741 buildings from Dubai’s earlier history. Now, the second phase will focus on the preservation of 35 areas, sites, and buildings dating from the 1960s to the 1990s.

HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed emphasized that this project reflects the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to raise the emirate’s profile as a global cultural destination. By protecting Dubai’s heritage architecture, the city aims to promote a deeper understanding among citizens, residents, and visitors of what has shaped Dubai into the thriving metropolis it is today.

The restoration efforts in the second phase of the project will include iconic landmarks such as the Clock Tower, Rashid Tower, Dubai Petroleum Building, and Dubai Municipality Main Building, among others. These structures represent a significant era in Dubai’s history and serve as a testament to the city’s architectural evolution over the years.

His Excellency Dawoud Al Hajri, Director General of Dubai Municipality, expressed the Municipality’s commitment to preserving historical landmarks and heritage sites in Dubai. He highlighted the importance of sharing Dubai’s rich heritage with future generations and honoring the historical significance of these sites.

The second phase of the project will bring the total number of sites covered by both phases to 807, showcasing Dubai’s diverse architectural history and cultural heritage. The preservation efforts aim to foster cultural continuity and highlight the enduring relationship between the people and their environment.

Overall, this project underscores Dubai’s dedication to celebrating its history and protecting its architectural treasures for future generations. By preserving these heritage areas, Dubai not only honors its past but also invites the world to witness the city’s past, present, and future all in one place. The restoration of these historical landmarks will further enhance Dubai’s appeal to visitors and strengthen its national identity on the global stage.
