Dubai’s International Airport to Relocate to $35 Billion New Facility within a Decade

Dubai International Airport, the world’s busiest for international travel, is set to undergo a massive transformation in the next decade. The ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, announced a project worth nearly $35 billion to move the airport’s operations to the city-state’s second airfield, Al Maktoum International Airport at Dubai World Central.

The new airport will feature a stunning design inspired by traditional Bedouin tents, with five parallel runways and 400 aircraft gates. This move comes as a response to the surge in passenger numbers, with DXB surpassing its pre-pandemic traffic in 2023. The financial health of Emirates, Dubai’s flagship carrier, has been a key indicator of the city-state’s economic recovery post-pandemic.
