Dublin Closes ‘Portal’ to NYC Due to ‘Technical Issue’

A new art installation called “The Portal” has captured the attention of viewers in New York City and Dublin, Ireland. The installation features a pair of portals that allow real-time interaction between the two cities, giving people a glimpse into what is happening on the other side of the world.

Installed on May 8, the portals have been placed in Manhattan’s Flatiron neighborhood in New York City and in Dublin, Ireland. Viewers can look into the large circular screen and see a live stream of the opposite city, creating a visual bridge between the two iconic cities.

The project, conceived as a testament to the power of art to transcend physical barriers, has been met with excitement and curiosity from both New Yorkers and Dubliners. However, the portal in Dublin was shut down on Monday afternoon due to a technical glitch, sparking speculation on social media about the real reason behind the interruption.

Despite the temporary setback, the portals are set to present a program of cultural performances later this month, allowing both countries to experience the same event simultaneously. The project is a collaboration between the Simons Foundation, NYC DOT Art, Dublin City Council, and the EU Capital of Smart Tourism.
