Duke Men’s Tennis Team Falls to TCU in Super Regionals

The Duke men’s tennis team’s postseason journey came to an end in the Super Regionals as they faced off against TCU in Fort Worth, Texas. Despite solid wins in the first two rounds of the NCAA tournament, the Blue Devils were unable to overcome the Horned Frogs, suffering a swift 4-0 defeat.

The match began with doubles play, where Duke found themselves at an early disadvantage as TCU clinched the doubles point. The Blue Devils needed to win four of six matches in singles play to stay alive, but the momentum was clearly in favor of the Horned Frogs.

As second-set play commenced, TCU’s dominance continued, with Duke players falling one after the other. The Horned Frogs secured the victory with a 4-0 team win, advancing to the quarterfinals against Kentucky.

The defeat marks the end of Duke’s 2023-24 season, but redshirt senior Garrett Johns and sophomore Pedro Rodenas will continue their tennis journey individually in the NCAA Individual Championships. The duo, ranked as the No. 1 doubles team in the country, will also compete in the NCAA Doubles Championships as the top seeds.

Despite the team’s loss, Johns and Rodenas remain favorites for the national title in the doubles competition, with their individual championships set to begin on May 20 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The Blue Devils may have fallen short in the team competition, but their standout players are poised to make a strong showing in the individual tournaments.
