The Durango girls tennis team faced a tough loss against Fruita Monument, with a final score of 5-2 on senior day at Durango High School. Despite the defeat, the team remains focused on the upcoming 4A Region 8 Regionals in early May in Grand Junction.
Coach Darren Tarshis praised sophomore Jordan Kitchens for her impressive performance, winning her match in two sets against Keira Wilhelm. Tarshis noted Kitchens’ improvement and peak performance just in time for regionals. He highlighted her aggressive play and smart tactics on the court.
The number three doubles pairing of senior Isa Bohachevsky and freshman Natalie Christensen also secured a victory in three sets, showcasing their resilience and determination after a previous three-set loss in Grand Junction.
The team honored its six seniors, recognizing their contributions to the program’s growth and success. Tarshis commended the seniors for their dedication and leadership, noting their impact on the team’s development over the years.
Looking ahead to regionals, Tarshis expressed confidence in the team’s potential to qualify a significant number of players for individual states in Pueblo the following week. With a strong focus on preparation and performance, the Demons are determined to make their mark in the upcoming competition.
