Dodgers Third Baseman Makes Error While Being Interviewed on Live TV
During a recent game at Yankee Stadium, Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Kiké Hernández made a costly error while being interviewed on live television. As he spoke with broadcasters on the Apple TV+ telecast, Hernández was asked about his colorful cleats and the team’s close-knit camaraderie. However, the interview took a turn for the worse when a ground ball hit Hernández on his bare right hand and ricocheted off his groin, allowing the runner to reach base.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, a former player himself, acknowledged that in today’s sports landscape, in-game interviews are becoming more common. While he didn’t fault Hernández for the error, Roberts admitted that he would not have volunteered for such interviews during his playing days.
Despite the mishap, Hernández remained unfazed and joked that he wouldn’t reconsider doing in-game interviews in the future because “we’re getting paid” and he “likes money.” In fact, players receive a stipend for wearing a two-way microphone during games, with the amount increasing during the postseason.
The Dodgers went on to win the game 2-1 in 11 innings, with Hernández back at third base the following night. While the error may have been a moment of embarrassment, it certainly added an unexpected twist to the game and highlighted the challenges of balancing media obligations with on-field performance.
