Soldiers with A Company, 548th Division Sustainment Support Battalion, 10th Mountain Division Sustainment Brigade, recently participated in a unique event aimed at enhancing their communication skills and building camaraderie. The brigade’s Holistic Health and Fitness team organized the CLIMB (connections, little things, inspire, mental toughness, and benevolence) event on May 20-21 at Fort Drum, New York.
The focus of the event was to encourage effective communication through a combination of classroom instruction and team-building exercises. Rachel Moore, an occupational therapist with the 10th MDSB H2F team, emphasized the importance of soft skills like communication in fostering strong relationships within the unit.
The two-day event provided an opportunity for lower- and senior-enlisted soldiers to engage in discussions and activities that promoted open dialogue and mutual understanding. First Sgt. James Shinchey, the senior noncommissioned officer of A Co., 548th DSSB, highlighted the significance of leaders actively participating in such events to show support for their soldiers.
One of the highlights of the CLIMB event was the involvement of the 10th Mountain Division Band, which helped emphasize the importance of listening and teamwork through sound cues and instructions. The event was a collaborative effort between senior leaders from the 548th DSSB, the brigade’s occupational therapy team, and Moore.
Overall, the CLIMB event not only aimed to improve communication skills but also to create a sense of belonging and support among the soldiers. By fostering a culture of effective communication and mutual respect, the event sought to strengthen the bonds within the unit and prepare soldiers for the challenges they may face during deployments.
